LCW: Getting It In On The Regular
Making fitness a habit can be extremely difficult for many people. I usually go strong for a week or two and fall off back to my respective spot on the couch. It is crazy because while I'm sitting there, I can think of how I don't have time to work out and how busy I am, but I'm actually watching TV or on the computer all night long. Now I know I could find 30-60 minutes to give back to myself to improve my health!
I'm now beginning my third month of at least five workouts a week. I started working out twice a day last week and it hasn't killed me! LOL Here are some tips I used to make it a habit:
- Don't break the habit- "Can't stop, won't stop" is my new motto for 2012.
- Reward showing up- I work out even when I don't feel like it, and honestly those days are few. I enjoy the feeling I get when I achieve my daily and weekly goals so no excuses for me.
- Make it fun- I have created different play lists on my iPod for each mood I may be in during my workouts. I love finding new songs to add. We also switch our routines or walking routes so it's different each day. Don't get bored or you'll quit.
- Get a buddy- I've got two =)
- X your calendar- I put a smiley face sticker for each day I stay "on plan". You would be surprised to see how good it feels to look at your calendar filled up with marks or stickers to represent your good efforts.
- Start small- My first two weeks were in front of my TV with a DVD. I did this until I got confident enough and wanted to add more. I now go to the gym and/or walk/run outdoors twice a day!

What's On Your Bucket List?
The newsletter at my job suggested that people create and begin to work on their bucket lists, a list of goals and dreams you wish to achieve or experience in this lifetime. "If you don't live your days by personal goals and plans, chances are you spend most of your time caught up in a flurry of day-to-day activities...without any tangible output to speak of". This is certainly how I viewed my life over the last few years, maybe longer. I wish to live purposely and I think this is a great way to gain a new focus on my life and make sure I'm doing what it takes to accomplish my goals.
My Bucket List (Tentatively)
Learn my fiance's language of Twi
Achieve my ideal weight
Graduate with honors
Run a 5K
Start my own business
Get debt free
Buy a house
Be a mentor
Join a local band as a singer
Get involved in community service outside of my job
Meet New Edition
Travel to Italy
Build a house in Ghana
Go on a shopping spree with guilt free money
This list will definitely get longer as I continue to grow. Create a bucket list for yourself and make sure you are in line to achieve them.
Float Like A Butterfly: Play Lists To Bring Sexy Back
As I stated before, I created play lists to workout with that have really kept me hyped and motivated on days that I may not really want to be there. I have always believed your mind is 80-90% of losing weight and I am constantly looking for new tricks to keep me in the game.
Well, for some people downloading the latest Kanye West or Drake song will get them pumped in the gym. I have found that downloading songs from the 80's and 90's, a time when I was slim does the trick.
You cannot help but remember what you felt and looked like the first time you heard "Poison", by BBD! What?! I was all over that living room floor trying to learn the routine until I got it just right. Or "Rolling With Kid N' Play", "Rump Shaker", "Supersonic", "Groove Me", "Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless)". The lists goes on and on. That was a very happy and energized time in my life and going back there for an hour a day does your mind and your body good! What's on your play list?
