A-Ha Moments: Party-In-A-Bag Resolutions

I was literally in the shower, where I do my best thinking (or sleeping), when the revelation came to me that the only way to conquer my food addiction is to be a good steward with my money.  I can't overeat if I can't overspend.  I would get to my last dime to get something sweet, spend $20 a day on fast food, or go shopping when I was bored or felt guilty from overeating.  This is what I call "Party-In-A-Bag"! The feeling I got when I got home and opened my bag of goodies was quite intoxicating.  But it was just a never ending cycle that always left me broke and feeling empty.
This week was the "soft launch" of my 2013 budget and savings experiment that will begin on Feb 1st.  Through my credit union's online banking, I've created several savings accounts for savings and expenses from each paycheck.  The only resolution I made for 2013 was to save and be able to do the things I want to do, when I want to do them.  Soft launch results: I have a cash flow the week before my next paycheck AND I lost 4.8 lbs this week so I will say I'm on to something!

Weekly Weigh In

I let that slip.  I lost 4.8 lbs this week by tracking all my food to MyFitnessPal and sticking to 1220 cals or less each day.  I was struggling to make it to 1220 because I (finally) stuck to a vegan diet and most of these foods have very little calories.  I'd find myself at 700 calories at 10pm.  Not a good look because I didn't want to sabatoge my weight loss by putting myself in starvation mode.  I wasn't hungry though, but I still ate a little more in the end to at least get to 1000.  Now, the hard part is continuing, but I'm proud of this accomplishment and I seriously loved the food I ate this week.

The Sweet Tooth Files: My Vegan Kitchen

Last week's Summer-time Fine challenge was to find a new recipe, make it, and share it.  I found these One Bowl, All Natural, No-Bake Energy Bites! The name is much harder then the recipe itself.  You can play with the add-ins on this to make the cookie dough taste the way you like (chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, double chocolate chip, etc), but I didn't want to add anything with animal products so I stuck with oatmeal raisin by adding a tsp cinnamon and a 1/2 cup raisins. These were really good and made 42 balls. I just freeze them and pop a couple out when I need a boost.  And 53 cal a pop ain't bad.

Sweet Dreams: Write The Vision and Make It Plain

This week my bestie and I participated in a Dream Board workshop with entrepreneur Keenya Kelly, CEO of Return of the Curls, and a group of wonderful, forward thinking sisters who are ready to make moves in 2013.  The boards are meant to inspire us as we strive to achieve those dreams we posted on the board. As we worked, we introduced ourselves and shared our businesses or business ideas, networked, and played an  inspirational word game.  Anytime spent with like minded folks motivates me to be the best I can be and live out my dreams as a business owner.  My success relies on my success in all aspects of my life so this journey is so much bigger than weight loss.  That's a lot of pressure, but I got this!

My board of dreams!
